Discovering a Passion for Security
Charlene’s path to security wasn’t planned. “I’ll be honest with you, I never thought about doing security in my life,” she shares. When the jobcentre suggested an SIA course, she decided to give it a try. “I loved it, I won’t be turning my back now. I made the right decision.”
The Unique Strengths Women Bring to Security
Charlene highlights why the industry needs more women: “We have a higher emotional intelligence, we can understand, manage, and respond to emotional cues. We are great at multitasking, which is critical in managing chaotic environments.” She also notes that female security officers play a crucial role in sensitive situations, such as body searches and harassment cases, providing a sense of safety and maintaining dignity and trust. In conflict management, women bring a collaborative and empathetic approach, often resolving disputes through dialogue rather than force.
Enjoying the Role
What Charlene loves most about her job is being an asset to the industry. “I enjoy resolving issues, helping others, and working in a great team,” she says.
Overcoming Challenges
Despite the enjoyment, Charlene acknowledges the challenges. “Women can be gender stereotyped, discriminated against, and harassed,” she explains. However, she doesn’t let these challenges deter her from working hard and enjoying her job.

Charlene expresses her appreciation for Lingwood Security Mnagement: “I feel blessed and proud to say I work for Lingwood. Since becoming a security officer last year and starting with Lingwood not long ago, I am thankful for this great opportunity to work alongside a great team. It’s so lovely working with them, and I look forward to many more years of great work together.”
