Overhead Line Security Project with Balfour Beatty
Lingwood Security Management are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a new contract with Balfour Beatty Power Transmission and Distribution.
Our specific responsibility is to provide security for the £214 million Hinkley Point C overhead line contract for Balfour Beatty, who are contracted by National Grid. The security cover will include static security officers, mobile supervisors and site access control.
During the mobilisation process, we are working closely with our team on-site to ensure they are fully trained, inducted and aware of the patrol routes etc. before the site ramps up.
Due to COVID-19, we are also putting additional measures in place to keep staff and clients safe, by following Government guidelines. We are working closely with the client to ensure these measures are kept up-to-date and reflect the constantly changing situation with regard to the outbreak.
Speaking following the news of the contract, Alan Lingwood, Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to be working with Balfour Beatty once again on what is a very high profile project nationally. Our team worked hard on the central part of this project, and as a result, we are now involved in the next phase, which is a credit to all involved. There is no doubt that this project will create additional job opportunities, which given the uncertainty of the economy and the lack of job security in some sectors at the moment, is something we are very proud of.”
Existing Contract
We are already providing security services on the central part of this project (Mendips 400KVA) and were awarded the next stage of the project due to our performance to date. The contract was awarded following site meetings with the overhead line team.
Our security operatives provide the access control to the main compound for this project, which includes all clients, contractors and suppliers access.
About the Project
Awarded through National Grid’s Overhead Line Design and Build Framework, the contract forms a critical part of the Hinkley Point C (HPC) connection scheme, linking the new nuclear reactor to the national grid.
As part of the contract, Balfour Beatty will design, supply, install, test and commission a new overhead line spanning 48.4km and crossing through the Mendip Hills in Somerset. On completion, the new line will connect HPC with a new substation in Avonmouth, Bristol. Works are due to commence this month, with completion expected in summer 2025.
