Samaritans Talk to Us Campaign
The campaign takes place annually in July to raise awareness of the importance of active listening in boosting mental wellbeing. Get involved to learn how to become a better listener and support loved ones who might be struggling to cope.
Samaritans is a charity which supports and helps individuals dealing with suicidal thoughts. The organisation also offers Samaritans Training as part of their partnership with Network Rail and the wider rail industry. Samaritans deliver a one-day Managing Suicidal Contacts course to rail staff, either virtually or face to face, training them on how to identify, approach and support a potentially suicidal person.
Our security teams often deal with suicidal incidents on Network Rail (NR)’s Southern Region as part of their Strategic Crime Intelligence, Security and Welfare Services and save many lives by using their training. The security officers are trained in how to recognise and respond and start a conversation with anyone who might be suicidal. They are taught essential listening skills that underpin their Samaritan’s services and how to resolve situations safely and refer a person to friends, family, the British Transport Police or Samaritans for further support.
For our staff at Lingwood Security, we provide a 24-hour access to a confidential professional counselling service and other services to help with mental health wellbeing through the staff portal. This helps to maintain peace of mind over your mental health and support yourself and loved ones.
The theme of the Talk to Us campaign is #WeListen. Ways you can participate in the campaign is:
- Participate in the Samarathon – walk or jog 26.2 miles in July to raise funds for Samaritan’s life saving mission
- 24th July – Samaritans Awareness Day – share posts online and inform others
