CASE STUDY

Anchorsholme Outfall

Project Name: Anchorsholme Outfall Site Security

Lingwood Security Management were awarded a local security contract through our long-standing client J.Murphy. We provided security for the Anchorsholme Outfall project.

The project involved the installation of a new outfall pipe over 3.7km. As the site contains offices and stores, plus various excavators, dumpers and dozers, it was vital to keep the site secure at all times. The project commenced on 18th April 2017, involving 24-hour security cover.

At 2.5m diameter and 3.7km in length, the Anchorsholme polyethelene outfall pipe is believed to be the largest in diameter and length in the UK.

Part of a £100m investment over five years, Anchorsholme long sea outfall forms part of the United Utilities’ strategy to improve the bathing water quality along the Fylde Coast. The outfall capacity is specifically designed to allow storm waters to flow far enough out to sea to prevent it affecting bathing water quality.

The pipeline was assembled off-site and towed to Blackpool for installation in August 2018, followed by trench backfilling and diffuser installation works. The Murphy work barge, LM Constructor, was used for the marine operations including installing hundreds of large concrete collars and ballast weights needed to ensure the stability of the polyethylene pipeline. The outfall project was due for completion in December 2017.

The feedback from the client was very positive, with the Safety Co-ordinator reporting that he had received some really good feedback about the guards, especially Lingwood Security day guard Andrew Wilde and his professional attitude towards visitors and the public.
