NHS Violent Marker Group

27th February 2015

Our Security Contracts Manager for the NHS, Dave Pattinson, has recently joined forces with the wider NHS working partnership family and outside agencies, to promote the Violent Marker Group for the NHS in the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust.

The aim of the risk of violence marker group is to help alert NHS staff to individuals who pose or could pose a risk of violence and enable them to reduce this risk. The marker should achieve this by serving as an early warning for NHS staff of a particular individual or situation that represents a risk to them, their colleagues or other patients.

The group will also help in providing security warnings and handling advice to NHS staff to avoid or minimise the risk where appropriate, enabling NHS staff to seek professional advice on what action should be taken helping providers meet their obligations under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. This will help reduce the number of violent incidents at the local level and assist in creating a safe and secure environment for staff, patients and visitors to the NHS.

Speaking on the involvement of Dave in the Group, Director Alan Lingwood said: “We’ve always been very passionate about our local community and are very keen to support any initiative such as this which will hopefully make our hospitals safer and protect the dedicated individuals who work there. As a business, we have considerable experience in the NHS and have recently recently won another major NHS contract due to this. I look forward to hearing about the outcomes of this working group from Dave.”
