Brian Wealthall
Security Manager
How did you first get involved with Lingwood Security Management?
I initially applied for a Business Development role, thinking my time in operational security was behind me due to an injury. However, after discussions with Summer and Alan, they saw that my experience would be better suited to an operational position when the right opportunity arose. A couple of months later, I received an unexpected call asking if I was still interested in joining the company. The rest is history, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
What was your first impression of Lingwood Security Management?
My first impression was how team-oriented and family-like the company feels. I’ve never worked in an office where everyone gets along so well and collaborates so effectively. In my past experiences, there were always one or two lone workers, but here, everyone is close-knit and integrates seamlessly with one another.
What’s your first memory of working at Lingwood Security Management?
My first memory is how warmly I was welcomed. Nearly everyone on the management team has been with the company for many years or is part of the family, and it was amazing to see how they extended that sense of belonging to me. It truly made me feel like part of the team from the start.
What has surprised you most about working at Lingwood Security Management?
I’ve been most surprised by the incredible reach of the company. My previous roles were with organizations that operated mainly in Lancashire and Cumbria, so being part of a truly nationwide company has been amazing. At Lingwood, the variety is endless—no two days are ever the same, and that constant change makes the work both exciting and rewarding.
What do you find most challenging about your work?
One of the most significant challenges I face is getting to know all the staff. As Security Manager, fostering relationships and ensuring that every team member feels supported and heard is a key part of my role. With such a large workforce, it can be tough to meet everyone personally while managing my day-to-day responsibilities. However, I see this as a positive challenge—it keeps me engaged and constantly on my toes. I take pride in making time for as many staff as possible, as it’s essential for building trust and maintaining open communication across the team. Despite the demands, I truly enjoy the variety and the fast-paced nature of the work.
What’s the best/worst thing to happen since you started working at Lingwood Security Management?
The best thing has undoubtedly been meeting the team and building relationships. From day one, I’ve felt welcomed and appreciated, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to watch those bonds grow stronger with each passing day. It’s clear that the people here are at the heart of what makes Lingwood such a great place to work, and developing those connections has been a highlight of my experience.
On the flip side, one of the more challenging aspects has been getting to grips with all the systems and processes. I’ll admit, there have been times when I’ve struggled to remember where specific things need to go, and asking for help doesn’t come naturally to me. However, I’m learning to overcome this, and with time, I’ve started to feel more confident navigating everything. It’s been a great opportunity for personal growth, and I see it as a challenge that will only make me better in the long run.
If you could change one thing about Lingwood Security Management, what would it be?
Well, if I’m being completely honest, I’d say relocating us to a beautiful, sunny location in a warm, foreign country wouldn’t be the worst idea! But in all seriousness, there’s very little I’d change about Lingwood Security Management. The company is incredibly well-managed, with strong leadership and a team-oriented culture that truly supports one another. From my experience, it’s hard to find anything that needs improvement. Everything is in place to ensure smooth operations, and I feel fortunate to be part of such a well-organized and efficient team. It’s a rare thing to work for a company that is already performing at such a high level.
What interesting characters have you worked with at Lingwood Security Management?
There have been far too many interesting characters to mention! We have a diverse and dynamic team, and quite a few individuals across different sites stand out for their unique personalities and perspectives. Whether it’s their sense of humor, work ethic, or the stories they bring to the table, there’s never a dull moment working with such a variety of people. It truly adds to the vibrant culture of the company and makes every day different from the last.
What do you think will change at Lingwood Security Management over the next five years, or in the industry as a whole?
The upcoming changes in training and licensing, particularly with the SIA raising the standard to Level 3, will be interesting. This shift will likely elevate the skill level of staff across the industry, which is a positive development. As for Lingwood Security Management, the future looks bright. There’s a growing demand for our services, and with the continued success of the company, I’m confident we’ll see even more expansion. Big things are on the horizon, and it’s exciting to be part of it. Watch this space—there’s a lot more to come!
If you weren’t working at Lingwood Security Management, what would you be doing instead, or what would your life be like?
Well one thing I know is that I wouldn’t have come back into operational security, I would have probably stayed in my job at Chorley group until something suitable came along, having a master’s in criminal investigation I would have most likely looked for an office based job I could have utilised this in.
How would someone describe you?
I’d probably be described as approachable, reliable, and always ready with a laugh or a quick solution to any problem—though my partner might sometimes suggest otherwise!
What do you do when you aren’t working?
When I’m not working, you’ll probably find me enjoying some well-deserved downtime—whether that’s catching up on a good TV show, exploring the outdoors, or indulging in a bit of gaming. I like to keep things balanced and unwind when I can, but I’m also always up for trying something new, whether it’s a hobby, a trip, or just a new way to spend my free time. That said, I’m not exactly one to sit still for long—I’m always looking for the next adventure, big or small!
