CASE STUDY

Southeastern Rail Graffiti Operation Patrols

Project Name: Southeastern Rail Graffiti Operation Patrols

Start Date: 04/11/2022

End Date: – Ongoing 01/11/2024 with a potential 2-year extension

Lingwood Security Management have been working with Southeastern Rail since November 2022 providing PTS Trained Security Patrollers to depots / sidings throughout London and Kent.

During Christmas / New Year 2022, we were tasked with the Christmas graffiti operation on 8 different locations including Gillingham, Plumstead Sidings, Slade Green, Dartford, Grove Park, Orpington, Tonbridge, and Down Main Sidings.  Due to the reduced timetable, many trains were berthed in depots and sidings and our purpose was to prevent, deter and disrupt the graffiti attacks on these trains.  We provided 3 patrollers covering 12-hour shifts for 24 hours a day from the 4th November – 3rd January.  Our duties included:

  • Patrolling the full site including sidings every 30-45 minutes
  • Access control throughout the full Christmas period including checking the ID of all personnel entering the site ensuring their validity on to site.
  • Full incident reports from start to finish of any attacks liaising with the client, British Transport Police and CCTV Teams resulting in a prosecution from a vandalism attack on Boxing Day
  • Responding to any incident activations

It was mandatory for all members of staff working on this contract to hold a valid SIA Licence, PTS Card with updated D&A / Medical and excellent communication / radio and reporting skills.

Due to the effectiveness of the Christmas operation with over 10 attacks being either interrupted / prosecuted we have continued to provide services on Plumstead Sidings working collaboratively with Southeastern CCTV Team, British Transport Police and Network Rail to prevent and reduce the trespass and vandalism attacks on trains stationed at Plumstead.

This particular station had been having numerous issues with vandalism attacks which was not only having huge cost implications to our client but causing disruption to passenger travel due to the cleaning of the trains and ensuring the trains are safe for travel. We have received fantastic feedback from the client for this service and have continued to stop numerous attacks in process! From experience and continual improvement, we now have put a rotational patrolling process in place where we have at least 2x patrollers out on patrol constantly throughout the shifts where the third operative gets a break. This ensures full coverage of the berthed trains and assists in the overall running of the rail network.

With the increased activity last week and the excellent work done by the team this has been a hot topic of discussion.”
