World Suicide Prevention Day
Saturday 10th of September 2022 marked World Suicide Prevention Day.
Every year, organisations and communities around the world come together to raise awareness of how we can create a world where fewer people die by suicide.
Every life lost to suicide is a tragedy and more plans need to be put into place to prevent suicide. Lingwood Security work closely with Samaritans on the Network Rail (NR)’s Southern Region as part of their Strategic Crime Intelligence, Security and Welfare Services.
Our security teams on this project often deal with suicidal incidents and save many lives by using their Samaritan’s training. The security officers are trained in how to recognise and respond and start a conversation with anyone who might be suicidal.
They are taught essential listening skills that underpin their Samaritan’s services and how to resolve situations safely and refer a person to friends, family, the British Transport Police or Samaritans for further support.
If someone is feeling suicidal, it might be hard to get through to them. They might be distant or distracted or feel disconnected from the world and their own emotions. They might not respond straightaway however one conversation can save someone’s life.
