Director’s View: June 2019

Welcome to the June review of what’s been happening at Lingwood Security Management.

My update is a little later than usual this month as I’ve been busy back at school! June was an educational month for both myself and Doc (Thomas Docherty) as we both got stuck into the books (so to speak) to study a range of workplace safety qualifications, which we successfully completed.

These will benefit Lingwood Security Management during the tendering process for contracts, and will also allow us to pass the acquired knowledge down to our operatives to improve their respective skills and competence.

We both found the process challenging, but it was a very interesting experience and ultimately rewarding to complete the courses. Here is a breakdown of what we achieved:

What This Space

During June, I attended a site visit to Blackpool for a big project that is coming up, however more about that one next month.

Lancaster & South Cumbria Economic Region Prospectus Launch

On Friday 14th June, I attended the Lancaster & South Cumbria Economic Region Prospectus Launch. This was a good chance to network with other like-minded business owners, and to find out more about this exciting opportunity for businesses in both regions to collaborate and grow.

As a bit of background to this new initiative, Barrow Borough Council, Lancaster City Council, and South Lakeland District Council have come together under the Lancaster and South Cumbria Economic Region (LSCER) to work on a cross-boundary economic initiative to raise the profile of the area and secure future investment for business growth and infrastructure.

With visitor numbers to both regions on the up, and significant developments in new energy, advanced manufacturing, retail, office, defence, life sciences, leisure and housing on the way, this can only be a good thing for us to be a part of. Look out for future updates on the LSCER.

New projects commenced in June

Balfour Beatty UCLan Highway Improvement Scheme – more details to follow on this one.

Morrison Utility Services Workshop – providing manned guards, covering nights and weekends.

Advance JV – security project for a water treatment works.

Network Rail – six new projects commenced.

UKPN (UK Power Networks) Project St. Brides – security cover.

Supply Chain Sustainability School

We are delighted to be awarded Bronze status by Supply Chain Sustainability School, recognising our commitment to actively engage with sustainability best practise and the progress we have made since joining the school.

Supply Chain Sustainability School

The Supply Chain Sustainability School is a collaboration between over 70 of the largest construction clients and contractors. The remit of the school is to provide a virtual learning environment to help suppliers and sub-contractors develop their sustainability knowledge and competence.

There’s more about that here…

Army Engagement Group

This week, I attended The Army Engagement Group at The Grand Hotel Blackpool with Colonel Russell Miller OBE, which was to promote greater awareness and understanding of the Army.

As a result of the meeting, I have decided to sign us up to the Armed Forces Covenant. The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation ensuring that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly. You can read more about it here…

As a family firm with a history of service, we have always been fully supportive of the Armed Forces.

This belief and respect for military thinking can be traced back to my grandfather, Arthur Lingwood, who served in the Armed Forces during the Second World War, and my own father, Alan Lingwood Snr, who served 8 years in the Royal Marines. You can read a full account of their military history here…

Personal Track Safety (PTS) Training

Staff and managers will be completing their PTS training over the next few weeks. This is due to the increase in security projects we are being awarded by Network Rail and other Rail-based companies, along with the success of completing PQQ’s and the submission of tenders for projects of this type.

PTS Job Opportunities

We are looking for staff who want to progress in their security career and enhance skills and training (plus receive a higher rate of pay) with this additional ticket. If anyone is interested, please contact Head Office and we can discuss in further detail. We will help you complete the training.

Positive Feedback

This month I have received positive feedback from three separate clients (Trant Diss Compressor Station, Network Rail Macclesfield and Murphy’s Kings Lynn) through our customer satisfaction survey. I would like to thank our customer care team for their hard work, as they do follow up on every job to ensure our clients are satisfied.

Wishing you all a productive and prosperous July.
